Moroccan spiced coffee with six spices

This spiced coffee is a renowned traditional Moroccan recipe that is generally made with 6 spices. The best thing about this recipe is that it is customizable. You can tweak it by adding or removing specific spices or by increasing or reducing the number of spices you toss in the saucepan so that the taste fits your liking.

Ingredients
  

  • tablespoons 
  • dark coarse coffee
  • hot water
  • 1/2  teaspoon aniseed
  • 1/4  teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4  teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4  teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4  teaspoon clove
  • Sugar (optional)

Equipment

  • French press or drip coffee machine.
  • Saucepan.
  • Kitchen scale.
  • Coffee grinder if you intend to grind the coffee yourself.
  • Spice grinder if you intend to grind the spices yourself.
  • Timer.

Method
 

  1. Use the grinder to grind the coffee beans and the spices.
  2. For two cups of coffee, put two tablespoons of coarse coffee.
  3. Add Half a teaspoon of aniseed.
  4. Add Half a teaspoon of cinnamon.
  5. Add the tip of the teaspoon of black pepper.
  6. Add a little bit of ginger and clove.
  7. Mix everything
  8. Add an amount of hot water for two people.
  9. Decant into a French press and let it rest for 4 minutes.
  10. Press the plunger and serve.
  11. Enjoy the flavor!

Notes

  • The Moroccan spiced coffee has a distinctive taste and flavor, perfect for those who prefer less intense black coffee.
  • If you like your coffee with milk, you may add the amount of milk you want.
  • Very much like Moroccan mint tea, you may add sugar to the spiced coffee.
  • You may grind the coffee and the spices together using the coffee grinder (see the variations of the recipe described below.)
