Ingredients
  

  • Freshly Ground Turkish Coffee Beans
  • Cold, Filtered Water
  • Finely Granulated Sugar (optional)
  • Cardamom Pods (optional)

Equipment

  • Cezve (Turkish coffee pot)
  • Small coffee cups
  • spoon
  • Heat source (stove or hotplate)
  • Cold water measuring cup
  • Small plate or saucer (optional)

Method
 

  1. Measure cold water using a coffee cup for reference. Use one cup of water for one cup of coffee.
  2. Add the cold water to the cezve (Turkish coffee pot).
  3. If desired, add sugar to taste (traditionally, one teaspoon per cup) and crushed cardamom pods for aroma.
  4. Add one heaping teaspoon of finely ground Turkish coffee to the cezve.
  5. Gently stir to combine all the ingredients.
  6. Place the cezve over low heat and do not stir from this point.
  7. As the coffee heats, it will start to foam. Just before it overflows, remove it from the heat. Repeat this process once more for a total of two foamings.
  8. Serve in small coffee cups with a glass of cold water on the side.
  9. Optionally, cover the cup with a small plate or saucer while serving.
